The Napoli midfielder had been mentioned as one of the front-runners to replace Vincent Aboubakar as team captain.

Anguissa, 27, has 46 caps for Cameroon since being called up in 2017, and he is still one of the best midfielders the national team has to offer. He has five goals for his nation.

As a regular starter for the team, he has contributed significantly to Napoli's success this season in the Italian Serie A and other competitions.

The oldest player on the club right now, veteran defender Nicolas Nkoulou, will only start as a substitute due to Song's selection.

In a World Cup group stage match when Aboubakar started on the bench, the 32-year-old defender and former team captain of the Indomitable Lions led Cameroon.

The 8:30pm GMT match between Cameroon and Namibia will occur at the storied Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.
