The tension that shrouded the end of Bordeaux – Bastia on Saturday reverberated on social media, where a few misguided minds lashed out at Cameroonian and Bordeaux defender Malcom Bokele.

Several messages of threats and insults, some of a racist nature, were sent to him on his Instagram account.

Indeed, the Cameroonian international had been at the center of a scuffle with Bastia striker Migouel Alfarela. An attitude that earned both players an expulsion at the end of the match (90th).

The hierarchy of Bordeaux has published a press release to denounce racist insults toward their players. The club is considering legal action.

"Nothing can ever justify racism in football," said Girondins CEO Thomas Jaquemier. Having learned of the events after the match, FC Girondins de Bordeaux gives its full support to Malcom Bokele in the face of the racist remarks and insults made against him [...] The club is now considering possible legal action so that today's events do not go unpunished”.
