The U20 Lionesses of Cameroon were well beaten by their Japanese counterparts in the opener of the Sud Ladies Cup 2023 that is taking place in Avignon, France. Goals from Momoko Tanikawa, Moka HIWATARI, and Yuka Kurimoto condemned Mike Ndoumou's charges to a chastening defeat.

The U20 Lionesses now occupy the last position on the classification table of the four-team friendly tournament, which also includes hosts France and CONCACAF representatives Panama.

The Lionesses were dominated from kick-off and could have conceded after just two minutes, the Cameroon goalkeeper doing well to keep out a well-taken long-range effort. The goalkeeper was at fault when she failed to save midfielder Tanikawa's long-range free kick to make it 1-0 in the 39th minute.

Further goals from Hiwatari and Yuka Kurimoto in the second half ensured that the Cameroonians have it all to do in their last two games. The Lionesses's Midfield and defensive lines need to be better organized if they want to avoid further humiliation.

Cameroon faces favorites France on Friday, 19th May, before rounding off their tournament against Panama on May 21st, 2023.
