Francophonie Games 2023: U-20 Lions One Step Away From Gold Medal Showdown

This year's edition which will run from July 28th to August 6th 2023 has seen different sports disciplines and artistic features, including a specific competition for Freestyle football.

The U20 Lions who were drawn in Group C endured a dangling start to the competition with a one-all draw in their first game against Lebanon.

The Lions opened the scoring through Eding de la Lekie's Peter Nebamkia, taking a one nil lead to the break, before being pecked back by the Lebanese in the second half of a one-sided game at the Tata Raphael Stadium in Kinshasa.

Yvan Kenmoe's Young Lions didn't let their heads drop after a hugely disappointing draw.

Arthur Avom and His team mates, made sure of all three points in the second group game, beating Niger 1-0 which propelled Cameroon to the top of group C with 4 points.

Canon de Yaoundé defender Ahmed Montapon has impressed during the games contributing massively at both ends of the pitch.

Ahmed scored the all-important winner against Niger with a well-placed header, before intercepting a last-minute lob and acrobatically sending the ball above the crossbar and ensuring a vital win that sent them into the Semi-final.

The Under-20 Lions are set to face Niger for a second time in 5days when the two meet at the Semi-final stage of the competition on Friday 4th August 2023 at the Stade De Martyrs at 6 pm.
