The 2023/24 MTN Elite One Championship Season kicked off on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, with Fauve Azure taking on Victoria United at the Ngoa Ekele Stadium in Yaoundé.

The newly promoted Victoria United opened their ELITE ONE account with a win, walking away with all three points against Fauve Azure.

A first-half brace by Richmond Nji ensured that the ELITE TWO Champions were off to a winning start after their 19-year absence from the top division.

There was much fanfare to the buildup of the opening game as football fans were itchy to see the start of a Brand new MTN ELITE ONE Season.

Under the watchful eyes of FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o, National Team coach Rigobert Song, and a host of other dignitaries, the stage couldn’t be better for the Season’s opening match.

Victoria United took the game to the ELITE ONE Stalwarts, quickly imposing their style on their opponents. The early pressure paid off as the Limbe-based Club took the lead after 21 minutes.

The game continued in a similar fashion, and Richmond registered his second goal just after the hour mark.

Fauze Azure quickly pulled one back through Debonheur Koulou as the game went into halftime at 2-1

The second half was a complete contrast to the first as Fauve Azure came racing out of the blocks following the restart. 

The Victoria United defense line came under immense pressure, with goalkeeper Andre Ndanga Kankombo making saves to keep the score at 2-1.

The final whistle was met with a resounding sigh of relief from Coach Guy Berlin of Victoria United, while the duo Guy Bertin and Koung will be hoping to build on a good second-half performance from the Faya boys.

With the Excitement in the stands, the electricity from the stands and the quality of the game at the Ngoa Ekele stadium on the opening day, the signs are all there for a thrilling 2023/24 MTN ELITE ONE Championship.
