According to a release shared by FECAFOOT, nineteen Clubs will battle it out for the top prize in the Cameroon Professional League this season.

Informing clubs about the start date of the League has triggered Elite clubs in Cameroon to intensify training and finalize deals for old and new players and coaching staff. 

Dynamo FC of Douala and Victoria United of Limbe are ready to take up the new journey after gaining promotion from the MTN Elite Two championship last season.  

What is the Format of the MTN ELITE ONE Championship for the 2023/2024?

The 19 clubs will be separated into 2 groups, (10 and 19). At the end of the season, the top four teams of each Pool will qualify for the championship playoffs. 

The winner of the Championship playoffs will be crowned overall league Champions. 

The remaining 11 teams will play a relegation playoff tournament to determine the 5 teams to be relegated.

This season will witness the relegation of 5 Elite One Clubs, the bottom two of each group will be relegated automatically while a playoff game will determine the 5th relegated team. 

It is however hoped that, the 2024/24 season will usher in the standard league format involving 16 teams with 30 playing days (home and away) for each team at the end of which the champions and relegated clubs will be determined by final league positions.

Which Region Has The Highest Number of MTN ELITE ONE Clubs?

The Littoral Region has the highest number of Clubs (6), followed by the Center region with four Elite One Clubs. 

The West Region has three Clubs, while the North West, and North Region can boast of two Elite One Clubs apiece.

The south and South West Regions complete the rooster with one club each. There are no ELITE ONE Clubs from the Adamawa, Far North and East regions of the country.

Who are the Favorites to win the 2023/2024 MTN ELITE ONE Championship?

Defending champions, Coton Sports of Garoua will be primed to continue their dominance of the MTN ELITE ONE Championship after appointing French Man Daniel Braerd as New manager. 

The 18-time Champions were kicked out of the CAF Champions league at the preliminary stage, and will be looking to make up for that with a strong showing in the League this season.

Newly promoted Victoria United and Dynamo FC have made huge investments in preparation for the top flight and could spring a few surprises when the season rolls out, but we can expect mainstays like Canon of Yaounde, Bambotous of Mbouda to be in the mix as well.

The MTN ELITE ONE Championship is programmed to Kick-off on the 27th of September 2023.
