The Southwest regional league officials have suspended nine referees due to persistent poor handling of games. The list of suspended referees was made public in a communique dated 30th March 2023.

The President of the referee's commission Ngoyo Leon said the suspended referees have been found "wanting in the interpretation of the laws of the game and unfair handling of matches."
The suspensions range from one to four-match bans. One of the referees, Oumar Alhadji, was issued a "serious warning."
There have been reports of poor officiating in the Southwest regional League, leading to some stakeholders suggesting that some Clup Presidents are involved in "match-fixing."
Former Victoria United goalkeeper Idriss Youssouf was dismissed in February 2023 after voice notes of him accusing the Club president of "buying matches" made rounds on the internet.
These accusations are being taken very seriously, as seen by the suspension of these referees. This is to reinstate sanity and the spirit of fair play in officiating games.
