It will be nothing short of fireworks in various Stadia this weekend as the MTN ELITE ONE CHAMPIONSHIP enters its 22nd and final matchday.
MTN ELITE ONE PREVIEW: 12 Teams Battle Relegation as Three-Horse Playoff Battle is decided this Weekend!
Group A
In Group A, UMS Loum, Canon of Yaounde, and Coton Sports of Garoua are all battling for two available playoff spots. While every other team in Group A will be looking over their shoulders as they seek to escape a brutal relegation. Fourth-placed Aigle De la Menoua is only 2 points above the bottom of the table from Avion Academy (22 points).
Elsewhere, relegation rivals PWD Bamenda and Rennaisance de Ngoumou will face off at the Mbouda Stadium, occupying the 9th and 10th spots, respectively. PWD Bamenda will be gunning for a victory which should be enough to escape relegation and, indeed, the relegation playoffs.
Group B
In Group B, the situation is less dramatic. Bamboutous of Mbouda and Gazelle of Garoua have sealed the playoff spots. Bamboutous will take the top spot if they avoid defeat against AS Fortuna. As Fortuna will want the victory more as they currently occupy the relegation playoff spot, a victory here can do them a world of good.
Yong Sports Academy is away to Astres Douala, both on 24 points, but the Bamenda-based club has a better goal difference.
Avoiding defeat will be the objective, but expect Astres to go all-out, especially with home advantage on play here.
Group A games will be played on Sunday, 30th April 2023, while Group B fixtures are programmed for a day earlier.
The 2023 MTN ELITE ONE playoffs have been programed for the 14th to 21st May in the City of Douala.
