Coach Hassan Balla of AS AWA has broken ties with the Guinness Super League Club.

He ends his time with the 2022 Super League Champions after spending five years at the Yaoundé -based club. Coach Hassan confirmed his resignation on the evening of Friday, 8th September 2023.

In his five years as coach of AS AWA, coach Hassan helped the club win two Guinness Super League Champion trophies and qualified for the CAF Women's Champion League in 2022.

The tactician parted ways with the team less than 24 hours after the team failed to travel for the CAF Women's Champions League qualifying tournament taking place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Why AS AWA pulled out of the UNIFFAC Tournament

AS Awa was one of four teams that qualified for the Zonal qualification tournament to contest for a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League in Cote D’Ivoire later this year, but the 2022 Guinness Super League Champions failed to make it to Malabo due to lack of funds. 

This is the second Cameroonian team to pull out of a continental competition for similar reasons. The U-20 boys failed to turn up for their tournament in the DR Congo in July this year.

CAF WCL 2023: UNIFFAC Sub–Regional Qualifications to Kick Start 8th September

The UNIFFAC qualification tournament kicked off in Malabo as programmed, with Equatorial Guinea representatives Hurricanes beating TP Mazembe 3 - 2 at the Estadio de Malabo. 

Day two matches will be played on Monday 11th, September while the third and final playing day will be on Thursday, September 14th, 2023. 

An automatic qualification ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023, will be granted to the team that finishes with the most points.
