Forward Jean Hugues Eyango netted a first-half double to help last season's second runners-up register a vital win on matchday One.

The Kpa Kum started the game brilliantly and scored through Jean Hugues Eyango inside 5 minutes, much to the delight of home fans.

Colombe du Dja reacted well, mounting several attacks and shots on target, but Canon stood tall.

Despite the total dominance from the visitors, Canon de Yaounde doubled their lead five minutes from half time, Jean Eyango taking advantage of some hesitation from the Colombe Defence to make it 2-0.

Goalkeeper Idriss Nfor did well to deny the Canon forward a hat trick just before halftime.

The second half was all Colombe du Dja as Coach Jean Francis Ndongo tried to rally his troops under torrential rains, with Eze Omgb and Mvondo all coming close.

Yenang Achille gave Colombe a lifeline in added time, but that only proved to be a consolation as Canon held out for all three points in a scintillating encounter.

What Next For Canon and Colombe?

Colombe du Dja will be encouraged by their showing in the opening game, but the team from the south will have to start to king their chances if they have to improve on the mid-table finish last season.

Next up for them is Union Sportif of Douala on Sunday8th September 2023.

On their part, Canon will be happy to start the season with a win as they prepare to face Cameroon Cup finalists PWD Bamenda this Sunday.
